Required Certificates
The exact form depends on your state. Common options:
- State resale certificate (most common — your state issues this when you register for sales tax)
- Multi-jurisdiction MTC form (covers most U.S. states with one form)
- IRS Form W-9 for non-profits (with 501(c)(3) determination letter)
- Government purchase order with tax-exempt designation
If you’re unsure which form applies, contact our team — we’ll guide you to the right one for your state.
How to Upload
Once you’ve opened a business account:
- Sign in and go to Payment Methods
- Find “Tax Exempt Certificate” section
- Upload your certificate as PDF or JPEG
- We verify within 1 business day
- Once approved, sales tax is automatically excluded on all future orders to applicable states
Multi-State Buyers
If you ship to multiple states, you may need a separate certificate per state. The MTC (Multistate Tax Commission) form covers ~38 states with one document. Some states (CA, NY, TX, FL) require state-specific certificates regardless.
Certificate Expiration
Most state resale certificates don’t expire — but some (CA, NY, MD) renew every 1–4 years. We’ll email you 60 days before any certificate on file expires. If a certificate lapses, sales tax will resume on new orders until you upload a renewed copy.
